Poly substance use\n(consumption of more than one substance at a period) is common among adolescents. \nLiterature shows that individuals with Adverse Childhood Experience are more prone to addiction.\nThis includes physical & sexual use\, emotional use\, incarcerated relative\, mother treated violently\,\nloss of a parent\, physical and emotional neglect. \nChildren and adolescents living in the street\, slums and homeless\, become particularly vulnerable to\nsubstance use in such high risk circumstances. Also\, the rate of help seeking behavior is low due to\nmany factors like lack of family and community support compared to others. It is always better to\nintervene before they initiate the substance use behavior. \nEnsuring active participation of young people\, they may be empowered to prevent and disseminate\ninformation on substance use prevention. Also for this\, there should be a strategy where young\npeople learn from each other and support themselves. For this purpose\, under the scheme of\nTargeted Intervention\, MSJE\, Govt of India has introduced Community Based Peer Led intervention\nwhich would be appropriate for preventing and reducing the substance use among the young people.\nThrough peer led intervention the aim is to reach children and early adolescents who are:\n·Vulnerable children/ adolescents at the age group 10 – 18 who are non users. For mainstreaming the drug addicts ASDO is working in chain with Municipalities\, Police authorities and general administration. IRCA is maintained as per norms of GOI and we are privileged to continue the program years together for benefit of hundred of drug addicts\, its family members and community people as well. \nIRCA is functioning well with a good number of qualified and well trained staff. It is a very challenging project. It has earned a very good name for mainstreaming the drug addicts in family and work place as well. We convey our heartfelt thanks to its dedicated workers who are working day and night for welfare of the addicts. We convey our thanks to all of them. \n All the dwellers are at present continuing their study. A good number of like minded NGOs and Social activists are also supplying educational materials and inputs from time to time to help the students. \n The position of school going children school-wise and class-wise are appended below: in this connection we convey our heartfelt thanks to Shri Sunil Mukherjee the Chairman\, Barasat Municipality who did much for admission of girls in outside schools.
